This is a Poem

In my Writer's Craft class last week we did some writing assignments to stir up a topic for a personal essay. One of them was writing a poem. I recommend this technique for anyone who wants to have a peek into their inner world. Each line of the poem begins the same, and the very act of repetition puts your mind into a place of openness and meditation. Let your hand keep writing and see what comes out. Try to get around 10 lines. Here is mine:

This is a poem about being easy.

This is a poem about smiling at yourself in the mirror.

This is a poem about your favourite smell, sight, touch, sound, taste.

This is a poem about drenching your senses.

This is a poem about coming home.

This is a poem about the meaning of life.

This is a poem about stillness.

This is a poem about breathing will all of your lungs.

This is a poem about being aware.

This is a poem about turning it around.

This is a poem about letting go and exhaling.

This is a poem about connection.

This is a poem about real life.
